Bring me back to the days of old
When season greetings were worth
Their weight in gold and silver bells
Would ring through the midnight air
Where magic still was felt and warmth
Was brought to hearth and kin
Please take me back there, take me back when
Back to an old-fashioned Christmas
Where reverence for the Son of God
Was more than just a yearly nod
To the triumph of the battle won
A reckoning of God’s earthly son
To pardon us of all wrong done
Where shepherds hung their heads low
And the Kings did bow as well to show
The reverence for God above to earth below
The redemption in human form to witness
Bring me back to warm smiles and season greetings
To spirited meetings and happier times
Where celebrations were joyous and attendees
Were dined to perfection, in wholesome replete
With conviction that to say the opposite
Would be a sin, for we were far happier
With less than that, then. Take me back when.
Back to an old-fashioned Christmas
Where stories were told to remind us of God
When fresh snow was more precious
Than the silver and gold that we hung
To remind us of the richness within
For we remember Christ came as a mere babe
Amongst men, to live perfectly and take away sin
And treat one another as fellow travelers to the grave
Because we remember what Christ gave
And gave up, a gift to us all after our fall
Let us not forget what this season’s about
Nor become angry for those acting without
The knowledge of our Savior
Who in innocence came as that babe
And in innocence paid for the sins
Of the rich and the poor alike
Oh, let us always remember that holy night
Hold it dear to our hearts forever in season
For we know that he is the reason
Back to an old-fashioned Christmas
Of jingle bells, delightful smells,
Treats and delicious hot drinks
Decorations of light to brighten the night
As the angels who sang long ago
So let the night glow with anticipation
And join the festive celebration
Of hymnals, praise, and jubilees
Our gratitude to the redeemer who freed us
To remember that old-fashioned Christmas

Yes and amen!
